Digitalis

Excerpt from Farrington: Digitalis produces, very early in the proving or in poisoning cases, among other symptoms, the most distressing nausea and vomiting. This emesis is often accompanied by a deathly faint, sinking sensation at the pit of the Stomach. The surface of the body is often cold, and sometimes covered with cold sweat. The pulse is irregular. It may be of use where the meninges are inflamed or in the nausea and vomiting of pregnancy.
Digitalis causes irritation of the pneumogastric nerves - we have inhibition of the heart's action. As a consequence of the effect on the vaso-motor center, the pulse becomes slow and arterial tension is increased. Its affect on the muscles causes weakness, or even paralysis, of the cardiac tissues so that the slightest exertion increases the rapidity of the pulse.

Gratiola (Hedge Hyssop)

In the proving there was emotional excitement and joy, followed by a sad and thoughtful mood with aversion to almost everything, especially mental work. The most commonly reported after-effects include an increased feeling of insight and improved mood, and a sense of calmness and increased sense of connection with nature.

Salvia off. (Sage)

The oil contains thujone, borneol, cineol, camphor, pinene. Sage is known for its relaxing effect and is used in nervous debility, and in states of excitability and dizziness.
Lou Klein asserts that there are intense romantic expectations in the whole family, which is quite a tubercular theme, and indeed there is an affinity for the chest in this remedy.

So far the only information we have is Therapeutic:

  • Chest - phthisis pulmonalis.

In Joy Lucas' proving there was extreem concern regarding children, in a protective way, especially regarding social and political issues*.

Its also traditionaly known to have a role in protection from spirits - a prover described herself as a wicked witch.

There is the excitement that is typical of the Lamiales but also profound fatigue, a feeling that if you go to sleep you will never wake up. It goes as far as discouragement and a sense of dread. Your dreams seem unrealisable. The mental fogging produces accidents such a locking your keys in the car. There is diminished libido.

The excited state has a sense of adventure and of moving forward. There's calmness and a sense of being protected.

There is anxiety and sadness. The heart feels full or heavy and the heartbeat can speed up or slow down. The heart sensation is of something pinching. There was a catching sensation in the stomach. Stabbing pains in the shoulder as if by knitting needles. The skin feels icy cold.

Rajans theme of bonds/connection seems to be expressed as protection.

It seems to be Tubercular - Rajans Miasms: Sense of adventure and danger. There is much to be done. Activity and burnout; (Stage 6). The duty to children could suggest a mineral analogue in the Ferrum series (Kalis, Calcs etc). Lac-h is another obvious relation.

*The same theme of benevolent protection present in the insects and is highly developed in social insects. For example Limentis B. the Butterfly and Coccinella, the Ladybird. Children blow the ladybird home chanting ...

Ladybird, ladybird, / Fly away home. / Your house is on fire, / Your children are flown.
All but a little one / Under a stone. / Fly home, Ladybird, / 'Ere it be gone

Lamiales - Summary

The main theme of the Order is loss of connection. When the connection is lost the mind easily delves into abstraction. This may explain the frightening dreams and also why some members of the Lamiales are associated with Shamanism.
The polarity is trying to hold on to the outside world - both to work and to relationships This results in anxiety and suspicion. The compensatory behaviour is to become as attractive as possible.
Dr. Sankaran noted that Euphrasia, a member of the Scrophulaceae family, has symptoms of watery secretions and also sticky or gelatanous adhesions of mucus or earwax (Plants, P.814). "Sticking together", certainly evokes the idea of connection.
Loss of connection in the Lamiaceace and in the Boraginaceae is seen in a tendency to withdraw into a trance-like state. The Lamiaceae are normally quite sexual and affectionate, but they are also impressionable and easily overexcited. When they are upset they become morose, private and incommunicative, in this state in their thoughts become disconnected and confused.
